The latest research by the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD)* shows that the convenience market generated total sales of £37.7bn in the 12 months to April 2015. This equates to a 5.1% year on year increase. Although convenience multiples are a part of this, independents make up 91.4% of the total number of stores and as such are crucial in driving this growth.
IGD evidence also indicates that £10.6bn will be spent in the convenience channel over next five years*. There is the potential for £5.5bn of this to be spent with independents, but they will have to work hard for it. As a company, everything that we do aims to support and energise these independent retailers to achieve this goal.
We work closely with the UK’s best independent news and convenience businesses to ensure that we have the insight and understanding to create not only products that support the sector and encourage growth, but that give our customers platforms to speak directly to the independent channel.
Independent research shows that retailers who read our titles are more successful, more optimistic about the future, and more likely to act on advertising than retailers who do not read our titles.
